Why Input Tax (ITC) Shows Multiple Times in Tally Prime — And How to Fix It (Simple Version)

Sometimes in Tally Prime, your GST Input Tax Credit (ITC) appears in multiple places in GSTR-3B or looks doubled.
This usually happens because:

• Wrong purchase ledger used
• Wrong GST ledgers used
• Wrong GST settings in items
• Voucher entered with wrong tax details

Below is a very simple, step-by-step way to fix it, written in plain language.

⭐ STEP 1 – Check where ITC is showing wrong

1. Open GSTR-3B report in Tally.
2. Look at the Input Tax Credit section.
3. If ITC looks doubled or appears in both “Available” and “Reversed”, note down the voucher numbers shown there.

This will help you identify which entries are causing the problem.

⭐ STEP 2 – Fix your GST Tax Ledgers (CGST, SGST, IGST)

Many times, ITC gets doubled because you have 2 or 3 different CGST/SGST ledgers created.

Make sure you keep only:

• One Input CGST ledger
• One Input SGST ledger
• One Input IGST ledger

If you have extra ones like “CGST 9%”, “GST 9%”, “CGST Purchase”, etc., stop using them.

Only use the correct ones from now on.

⭐ STEP 3 – Fix your Purchase Ledger

Open your Purchase ledger and check:

• It should be under Purchase Accounts
• GST detail should be Purchase Taxable (Local) if buying within state
• Or Interstate Purchase Taxable if buying from another state

If this setting is wrong, Tally sends your ITC to the wrong box.

⭐ STEP 4 – Fix your Stock Item GST Details

(Only for inventory users)

Open your stock item and check:

• Tax should be Taxable
• GST rate should match the item (example: 18%)
• HSN should be correct

If your item is marked as “Exempt” or wrong GST %, ITC splits incorrectly.

⭐ STEP 5 – Now Fix the Vouchers That Created the Problem

Go back to GSTR-3B, open the wrong figures.

You will see the list of purchase vouchers that caused the issue.

Open each voucher and check:

✔ Party ledger

Correct GSTIN? Correct state? Registered supplier?

✔ Purchase ledger

Use the correct purchase ledger (taxable local or interstate).

✔ GST tax ledgers

Use only

• Input CGST
• Input SGST
• Input IGST

No other tax ledgers.

✔ Tax behaviour inside voucher

After correction, the tax should appear only once in the voucher’s tax details.

⭐ STEP 6 – Refresh GST Report

After fixing the ledgers & vouchers:

1. Go to GSTR-3B
2. Press Detailed view
3. Refresh the report

Now ITC should appear correctly only once.

⭐ STEP 7 – Confirm Everything

Your GSTR-3B will now show:

• Correct ITC
• No duplicate ITC
• No ITC in “Reversed” or “Ineligible” sections
